My name, Noura!

Finding a suitable name for a child is one of the first tasks that parents do. My parents chose my name before I was born. Some children are named by their parents after they have a long and careful discussion of a proper name for the child, while others are named after the father or the mother In my case, both of my parents discussed this important matter and gave me my name (Noura). I was named after my grandmother who passed away In Arabic my name means white, pure flower.  

Because of the significance and concept behind  this name, many girls are named Noura. My name is so common in Saudi Arabia that my grandmother, my aunt and twelve of my cousins have it!  My name is not difficult to pronounce even if you don't speak Arabic. The name Noura, which is a symbol of originality and Arabism, is one of the most famous, traditional names in the Gulf countries, especially in Saudi Arabia. It is almost impossible to enter any Saudi classroom and not have other students with the same name. In my classroom there are about five classmates who are also named Noura, so if the lecturer calls "Noura", we don't know which Noura she means! Lol. In addition, King Abdulaziz's sister, Princess Noura had the same name like me. She and her brother were so brave and wise that's why there is a university in Saudi Arabia called Noura University. If Saudi poets want to describe a brave, sane person, he will be called "Noura's brother", which symbolizes bravery and strength. They can say, "brave like King Abdulaziz" but they say this to show her honor, too. I listened to a lot of songs and read a lot of poems which glorify this name.  

In my childhood, my family and my friends used to call me Nono instead of Noura! Although my name is  traditional, it doesn't get old. Lots of people still use this name today. Even though there are many old people, young people and babies who share the name, Noura, it is still a unique name! I am very proud of my name and I like it so much, I would never change it.
